Joseph Hachem

It hasn’t been that long since Joe Hachem snatched the title in the 2005 World Series of Poker. Joe Hachem is a former Australian chiropractor who became an instant poker celebrity. He is one of the chosen few non-American poker players who won both the title in World Series of Poker and World Poker Tour, alongside with Doyle Brunson.

Life before Poker

Joseph “Joe” Hachem is a Lebanese-Australian poker player. He was born on March 11, 1966 in Lebanon. In 1972, their family moved to Melbourne, Australia where they started their new life and where Joe started his own family as well. He married his childhood sweetheart, Jeanie, and had four children with her namely Anthony, Justine, Daniel, and James.

Before his poker career, Joe Hachem was a chiropractor and has been operating his business for almost 15 years. But because of a rare blood disease, he decided to work as a broker and a “semi-professional” poker player in both live and online casinos in Melbourne.

One day, Joe Hachem and his friends watched a movie entitled “Rounders,” and this was the inspiration that led Joe into playing professional poker.

The High Point of His Poker Career

Before 2005, Joe Hachem was already interested in poker, but it became serious when he and his cousin went to Las Vegas. Their mission was to win the “Big Jackpot” with only a $10,000 bankroll. His first tournament was the 2005 World Series of Poker on July 4 where he finished in 10th place. He won $25,000, but he didn’t expect that he will win millions two weeks after. He won the title in the main event of 2005 WSOP. His winning hand was 7-3 off suit which is considered as a poor starting hand. He was considered as the first Australian poker champion and the one of the four non-American champions in history.

After winning the 2005 WSOP main event, Joe Hachem became an instant celebrity. He is now a member of the Poker Stars Team. In 2006, he entered the WSOP again, and luckily, Joe Hachem made it to the top two tables and won the World Poker Tour Title. His total earnings, which are exclusive only to live poker tournaments, are around 10 million dollars. He ranks second to Jamie Gold.

Being a family man, his life was not totally devoted to poker, but he gives more of his time to his family. When he’s not playing poker, he goes to fine restaurant with his family or spends his time playing golf.
