Before the Poker Limelight

Howard Lederer was born in New Hampshire on October 30, 1964. His father was an educator and a linguist, and his sister, Katy Lederer, is a well-known writer. Howard was an excellent chess player during his high school years, and during his college years, he spent most of his time in his chess club in New York and where he attended college at Columbia University. New York is known as the center of the best chess clubs in the United States, but it is also famous for its poker clubs. One day when Howard Lederer was playing chess in his favorite chess club, he discovered a poker club and became captivated with playing poker after that. He played poker at Mayfair Club, which is the home of the greatest players in the world. Since then, his time was dominated by poker, and a lot of it was spent in casinos. He was then an all-nighter, so he would go home losing most of his bankroll. He then decided to back down and prepare himself for a new challenge. He teamed up with his sister, Annie Duke, and created a partnership which will soon be recognized in the poker world.

The Winning Moments in Poker

In 1994, Howard, together with his sister, Annie Duke, made history for both making the same table in the WSOP. Because of this event, Howard was determined to become one of the best, so he decided to move to Las Vegas with his family. He focused his attention on buy-in tournaments. In 1995 to 1996, he joined the Hall of Fame Poker Classics and won his two titles in Deuce to Seven Draw. By the year 2000, Howard entered the World Series of Poker and won his first gold bracelet in the $5000 Limit Omaha Hi/Lo. His second gold bracelet was the Deuce to Seven Draw event in the 2001 World Series of Poker. After winning his two gold bracelets, he continued to join in major tournaments. He participated in the World Poker Tour where he won his first WPT championship title. The next year, Howard won his second WPT title.

Howard Lederer is a very sophisticated player. He has gentle character especially when he is at the table. He is currently giving lectures to beginners and is a co-owner of the gaming company, TiltWare Inc.

As of this year, Howard’s total winnings are almost $5,000,000.
